Digital Night Vision
By Richard Simm
How It Works
Digital Night Vision is a type of electro-optical device that amplifies existing light, like moon and star light. This device is sensitive to a wide spectrum from visible to infrared lights. It works by using its accessory illuminator to amplify the light that is available on the infrared end through casting a beam, hardly noticed by the eye. Digital night vision is highly useful for hunting and surveillance.
In viewing objects, the night vision device displays the electronically amplified image on the phosphor screen. It is a black and white screen where the image is focused. As light enters the device through the objective lens, it runs into a high-energy charge photo cathode. Then the eyepiece will magnify the image.
Useful for Hunting
Hunting is considered 24-hour, day and night sport nowadays. A digital night vision monocular or binocular can help make the hunt a great success. The viewing range can be feasible for hunting because it can go from 30 meters to 600 meters. Bigger game can be spotted at a range of 150 meters. Hence, it can facilitate rapid spotting and volume of the hunt. However, elemental conditions like rain, fog and smoke can reduce the range of view.
It can rapidly capture the eye of animals that wander in the dark. Using goggles with binoculars of this type can make a difference in the hunting experience and give a new element in hunting game. Even smaller animals scurrying in the forest floor can be captured by the night vision binoculars. Some hunters come in two’s, one shooter and one spotter. A good thing about this night vision device is that the shooter can focus on the target while the spotter can scan the area for other targets.
Some hunt for rats in their yards, to free themselves from these pests. The harm that these creatures can inflict on humans cannot be underestimated. Using a digital night vision device can be totally helpful since rats move themselves mainly in the dark.
Useful for Surveillance
Some digital night vision devices that can be used for surveillance in the dark are the binoculars, camera, goggles that are attached to binoculars, and many others. Usually, for security reasons, a digital night vision camera is installed to monitor the surroundings. This is a digital system that works in low-light or even dark conditions. It has a viewing range of about 15 meters, and it uses infrared diodes. These diodes are sensitive in picking up images even with low-light and at the maximum distance.
On the other hand, the digital night vision monoculars or binoculars can be used by any person doing the patrols. It can spot any suspected threat. Border police use this device because many of those who cross the borders do it during the night. It was first used for combat, when the military has to fight the enemies in the dark. It can pick advancing enemy troops at a glance and the army can close in their defense to the areas that the night vision binocular spotted.
In enclosed places, usually some restricted areas like the laboratory or bank vaults, the digital night vision camera is installed. The device works well in places like this because it can monitor well the movements of any intruder. This type of surveillance camera is usually waterproof and can weather intense shock.
Indeed, digital night vision is highly advantageous for shooters and peepers alike. On an ending note, if you use digital night vision with legitimate purposes, like hunting and surveillance, you won’t have problems with the law. If otherwise, prepare for some heavy physical (and legal!) hitting.
